Walter Hermann Schöler (born March 10, 1947 in St. Tönis ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1992 to 2005 he was a member of the German Bundestag .

Life

Schöler pursued after attending the elementary school a career in public administration. From 1971 to 1992 he worked for the city of Tönisvorst as an administrative graduate . From 1971 he was head of the real estate, economic development and urban redevelopment departments, and in 1988 he was responsible for public order, urban cleaning and housing. As a member of the Rhineland Regional Assembly (from 1984 to 1995), he was involved in social issues and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1990. In 2011 he was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class. He is also the holder of the Seulenmedal of the city of Tönisvorst.

Schöler has been an honorary member of the board of directors of the Allgemeine Wohnungsgenossenschaft Tönisvorst eG (AWG) for over forty years and has been chairman of the board there. From 2000 to 2015 he was deputy chairman of the advisory board of the German drug aid organization action medeor, from 2000 to 2016 deputy chairman of the Federal Association for the Promotion of the Cooperative Idea (BzFdG) and from 2010 to 2015 honorary judge at the Higher Administrative Court for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in Münster .

Schöler has been a member of the SPD since 1966, for which he was the local association chairman in Tönisvorst from 1969 to 1975. From 1968 to 1974 and then again from 1980 to 2002 he was a member of the Viersen subdistrict board . Since 1986 he was sub-district chairman and member of the SPD district committee Niederrhein. On December 8, 1992, Schöler moved into the Bundestag instead of Franz Müntefering , where he remained until 2005 as a member of the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 2002 to 2005 Schöler was budgetary spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group, chairman of the trust committee for budget control of the federal intelligence services and deputy chairman of the committee for federal loan financing. The SPD state party conference in North Rhine-Westphalia elected him on October 29, 2012 as a member of the five-member state control commission.
