Friedrich Wilhelm Walter Schlienz (born May 3, 1896 in Hamburg , † February 23, 1977 in Bremerhaven ) was a German biologist .

Schlienz studied zoology at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1922. He first worked for the Kiel fisheries administration and founded Kühlfisch AG in Wesermünde in 1924. Together with Rudolf Plank he developed cooling processes. In 1940 he was one of the initiators of the Freezing Technology Society of German High Sea Fisheries GmbH. In order to be able to cool fish directly on board the ship, Schlienz invented a special freezing system, which became known as the Schlienz-Schneider system. He was a lecturer at the TH Karlsruhe and was managing director of a deep-sea fishing shipping company from 1950 to 1953. After the end of the Second World War, Schlienz worked part-time with hydrobiological research. From this, a limnological research facility developed through him , which was taken over by the University of Freiburg in 1961 .
