Walter Schneeloch (born April 2, 1947 in Bensberg ) is a German sports official and former headmaster. From 2005 to 2020 he was President of the State Sports Federation of North Rhine-Westphalia (LSB NRW) and from 2006 to 2018 he was Vice President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), where he was responsible for the “Popular Sports / Sports Development” department.

education and profession

After graduating from the Albertus-Magnus Gymnasium in Bensberg, Walter Schneeloch began studying teaching at elementary and secondary schools at the Rhineland Pedagogical University (Cologne Department) in 1967. In 1970 he passed the first state examination and a year later the second state examination. Then he took up a position as a teacher at the secondary school in Herkenrath . In 1972 he became head of sport at the Bergisch Gladbach district seminar , and in 1977 he moved there to the position of educational director. In 1978 he was appointed rector of the Büscherhof community elementary school in Leichlingen . In 1986 he was appointed head of the department for school and club sports at the district president of Cologne. From 1989 to 2005 he was an alderman for the city of Gummersbach . His daughter Yvonne was a basketball player in the Bundesliga.

Sporty way of life

In addition to athletics, Walter Schneeloch's sporting life is mainly shaped by football, where he was active as a player and as a coach. His career as a player began in 1959 at Bensberger FV. Further positions followed in the associations TuS Untereschbach, TuS Immekeppel and TuS Moitzfeld. He celebrated his greatest sporting success with TuS Lindlar : In 1970 he rose with the club in the association league, the highest amateur class at the time.

Civic engagement

Walter Schneeloch's civic engagement also began in the football club. After he had headed TuS Moitzfeld as chairman for four years from 1988, the following honorary positions at middle and higher association level followed:

  • 1992 to 2005 member of the executive committee of the West German Football and Athletics Association

  • 2001 to 2005 chairman of the educational organization of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia
  • 2001 to 2005 Vice President of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia
  • 2005 to 2020 President of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia
  • 2005 to 2018 chairman of the management academy of the German Olympic Sports Confederation
  • 2006 to 2008 chairman of the European Academy of Sport
  • 2006 to 2018 Vice President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation for the department of popular sports / sports development
  • 2006 to 2020 member of the WDR Broadcasting Council
  • 2015 to 2019 Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Safety in Sport Foundation
  • 2017 to 2019 President of the Sports Education Association of the State Sports Association NRW e. V.
