Safety in Sport Foundation
The Safety in Sport Foundation emerged from the Working Group on Safety in Sport and was formed from a large number of its member organizations and people involved on May 19, 2015. As an operational foundation based in Bochum , it has set itself the goal of monitoring the number and severity of accidents To reduce injuries and damage in sports. To this end, it develops preventive measures and wants to arouse awareness of this issue in the population.
Goal and content
The foundation wants to make sport safer throughout Germany. This goal is particularly achieved through:
- the promotion, initiation and realization / implementation of projects to research questions about the emergence, prevention and consequences of sports accidents , injuries and damage,
- promoting the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of information between the institutions and persons concerned with the purpose of the foundation,
- promoting the sport by qualifying measures for physical education teacher / inside, instructor / inside and coach / inside for the practical implementation of the findings and
- promoting greater awareness of the topic in politics, the general public, among those who do sport, as well as people and organizations involved in sport.
In addition, the foundation is a signatory of the declaration of commitment by the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .

Projects
The foundation works together on its projects for sports organizations, insurance companies, health insurances, universities, institutions of the statutory accident insurance and other institutions in sport. Exemplary projects are:
- Qualification measures for trainers, trainers
- Blended learning module "Safety in Sport" in the trainer training together with the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia and the VBG
- Creation of a “recommendation for the safe use of non-standardized sports and exercise spaces for the sport of the elderly” together with the state sports association of North Rhine-Westphalia
- Joint project "Protect your head" with the ZNS - Hannelore Kohl Foundation and other partners
- Development of an app for the prevention of knee injuries in cooperation with BARMER
- Development of a security concept for fitness locations as part of the joint project of the German Gymnastics Federation and BARMER
- In the current project “Club sports in the municipality - safe and secure against injuries”, a comprehensive concept is being developed to reduce the number and severity of sports injuries in club sports based on the three pilot municipalities of the district of Lippe , the city of Krefeld and the city of Rheine . This project is funded by the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia . In addition, the Safety in Sport Foundation works together with the Board of Trustees for Road Safety in Austria and the Advisory Center for Accident Prevention in Switzerland . The organizations meet annually for a three-country exchange and develop further project ideas.
