Walter Spagerer

Walter Spagerer (born November 2, 1918 in Mannheim-Waldhof ; † February 20, 2016 ) was a German SPD politician and football official.

Life and work

After leaving school, Walter Spagerer completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic at Bopp & Reuther . In 1938 he had to do the Reich Labor Service and was then drafted into the Wehrmacht , with which he took part in the Russian campaign. After the Second World War he worked again at Bopp & Reuther and was elected deputy chairman of the works council in 1946. From 1951 he worked full-time for IG Metall , whose first authorized representative in Mannheim he became in 1961. Until 1982 he headed the Mannheim office. Spagerer was married and had two children.

politics

In 1952 Spagerer joined the SPD. From 1968 to 1972 he was a member of the Mannheim City Council . From 1970 he was on the district executive committee of the SPD. In 1972 he was elected to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , to which he belonged for four legislative terms until 1988. There he represented the constituency of Mannheim 1 . In 1991 he was one of the co-founders of the Mannheim Working Group of Social Democratic Seniors (ASS) / 60 plus .

Social Commitment

In 1928 Spagerer became a member of SV Waldhof Mannheim . From 1979 to 1996 he was a member of the Presidium and was involved in the construction of the Carl Benz Stadium .

From 1953 to 1965 he was an honorary labor judge at the regional labor court in Mannheim, also from 1965–1972 a lay judge at the labor court in Mannheim and from 1965–1973 social judge at the regional social court in Stuttgart.

In 1978 Spagerer was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and in 1985 the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class. In 1987 he was honored with the Mannheim Bloomaulorden . In 1995 he was awarded by Prime Minister Erwin Teufel , the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg . At SV Waldhof Mannheim he received all awards, including the highest, the ring of honor in gold with diamond. The Mannheim AG60plus appointed him honorary chairman in 2001. On August 26, 2014, the main grandstand of the Carl Benz Stadium Mannheim was renamed the Walter Spagerer grandstand by the Pro Waldhof eV fan association as part of a charity match against Borussia Dortmund .
