Walter Stieglitz
Walter Stieglitz (born December 8, 1928 ) is a former German soccer player. In the 1950s he played for BSG Chemie Leipzig and SC Lokomotive Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football . In 1957 he won the GDR soccer cup with the SC Lokomotive .
Athletic career
After Walter Stieglitz had played with the company sports association (BSG) Motor Böhlitz-Ehrenberg in the Leipzig district class until 1951 , the 22-year-old moved to the reigning soccer champion Chemie Leipzig in the GDR league. In the 1951/52 season, in which Leipzig could no longer defend the championship title, there were 36 games to be completed in which newcomer Stieglitz was used 14 times. He played mostly as a left midfielder. The midfield was initially his field of activity in the following seasons. While Stieglitz rose in 1952/53 with 29 of 32 league games in the core team of BSG Chemistry, he was absent in the following season due to injury in nine of 28 league games.
In August 1954 the league team of BSG Chemie Leipzig was taken over by the newly founded SC Lokomotive Leipzig. In the following five seasons Stieglitz always had a regular place in the league team. In the 1956 season, coach Fritz Wittenbecher used him after six match days for the rest of the season as a right-back. This measure was later also taken over by the subsequent trainer Alfred Kunze . As a right defender, Stieglitz was also in the 1957 final for the FDGB Cup, which SC Lok won with a 2-1 win after extra time over SC Empor Rostock . In 1959, 30-year-old Walter Stieglitz completed his last season for SC Lokomotive Leipzig. He was only used on the eighth league game day and came to only thirteen games in the league by the end of the season.
As a recreational athlete, he joined the fourth-class district division Lok Leipzig-Ost in the 1960 season . In 1958 he helped the team to the district championship and promotion to the 2nd GDR league .
