Walter Wagner (doctor)

Walter Wagner (born March 2, 1951 in Bayreuth ) is a German doctor and boxing functionary .

Life

Wagner, whose father Viktor was the mayor of Betzenstein  , graduated from high school in Pegnitz . He studied medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and obtained his doctorate in 1976. He then initially worked as an assistant doctor at the Pegnitz Hospital before starting a six-year specialist training course in Erlangen. He became a specialist in surgery and special trauma surgery, vascular surgery, physical therapy, emergency medicine and sports medicine.

From 1994 Wagner was chief physician for trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Bayreuth Clinic . He completed his habilitation  and was appointed adjunct professor in 1995. For years he was also the chief physician of the rescue helicopter Christoph 20 .

He remained in office as chief physician of trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Bayreuth Clinic until the end of 2016 and moved to the Bayreuth MedCenter in 2017. In February 2018, Wagner also became the chief doctor of the surgery clinic at Kemnath Hospital.

From 1980, Wagner, who boxed himself as a youngster, was an association doctor for the Federation of German Professional Boxers (BDB), was a member of the BDB's executive board as vice-president for two terms and was a ring doctor in numerous professional boxing matches for decades. He was also the team doctor for the 1. FC Nürnberg team . From 2006 he was also chief physician at the Austrian Pugilist Association.

As a member of the CSU  , Wagner sat on the Bayreuth city council from 2004. He was a member of the sports board of the city of Bayreuth and a member of the supervisory board of SpVgg Bayreuth and Klinikum Bayreuth GmbH.
