Walter White

Walter Weisse (born January 21, 1923 in Freyburg (Unstrut) ) is a German painter and art teacher. He lives in Freyburg an der Unstrut.

Life

Weisse studied art education and art history at the University of Leipzig in 1953/1954 at the Pedagogical Institute in Erfurt and from 1957 to 1961 . 1961 to 1962 he taught himself at the University of Leipzig. From 1962 to 1968 he did research for his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin, where he received his doctorate in 1969. He then worked for more than three decades as an art teacher in Freyburg. His first own exhibition as a painter took place in 1960 in the "Romanisches Haus" in Bad Kösen .

In 1978 he found his first recognition as an artist when 60 watercolors by him were exhibited in the illegal "EP gallery" of Jürgen Schweinbraden in Prenzlauer Berg. The East Berlin National Gallery bought three watercolors from this exhibition.

Weisse is friends with the Berlin painters Dieter Goltzsche and Achim Freyer , with whom he worked together for several years in landscape painting .

Since 2002 part of Walter Weisse's personal correspondence has been kept in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg, in the archive for fine arts.
