Paolo Giglio

Paolo Giglio (born January 20, 1927 in Valletta , Malta , † March 7, 2016 ) was a Maltese clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Paolo Giglio was ordained a priest on April 12, 1952 . From 1956 to 1958 he graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . He then worked at the Apostolic Nunciatures in Nicaragua from 1958 to 1959, from 1960 to 1962 in Argentina and most recently from 1963 to 1965 in Iran .

Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on June 21, 1963 the honorary title of Supreme Chamberlain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and on November 27, 1971 the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . On January 26, 1976, he appointed him assistant to the apostolic nunciature in France and on February 9, 1976 he was given the honorary title of apostolic protonotary .

On April 4, 1986 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Tyndaris and the apostolic nuncio in Nicaragua . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in San Marino , Pier Luigi Celata , on June 8 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Joseph Mercieca , Archbishop of Malta , and Nikol Joseph Cauchi , Bishop of Gozo .

On March 25, 1995, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt and Permanent Observer of the Arab League . On February 5, 2002, John Paul II accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.
