Walter Evans-Wentz

Walter Yeeling Evans-Wentz (born February 2, 1878 in Trenton , New Jersey , † July 17, 1965 ) was an anthropologist and writer .

Life

Influenced early on by theosophy , Evans-Wentz studied at Stanford University and dealt with Celtic mythology on a research trip through Ireland and England in search of reports on sightings of fairies . Extensive travels through Mexico were followed by a five-year stay in Asia, from Ceylon to the Himalayas . During this time he became a Buddhist monk.

He pioneered Tibetan Buddhism , translated the Bardo Thödröl and wrote books on Milarepa , among other things .
