Walther Zech

Walther Zech (born November 12, 1918 - March 8, 2010 ) was a German publisher . In 1981 Die Zeit called him "one of the most powerful and idiosyncratic publishers of regional newspapers in the Federal Republic of Germany".

Life

Zech initially completed an apprenticeship as a banker and later moved to the Essen publishing house of the daily newspaper “ Die Welt ”. Later he took over the management of the VDI publishing house in Düsseldorf. Zech was the publisher of the Düsseldorf magazine publisher and since 1962 managing director and co-editor of the Mainz publishing house (MVA) and printing company Will & Rothe KG, after changing its name to the Rhein Main publishing group, its managing partner. In 1982 he became managing director of the Haase & Köhler publishing house.

From 1974 to 1981 he was vice-president of the BDZV and was a member of the main board of the Bundesverband Druck . He was a board member of the Association of Newspaper Publishers in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, and later an honorary member. Walther Zech was among other things a member of the supervisory board and chairman of the technical commission of the German press agency and a member of the executive committee of the central committee of the German advertising industry (ZAW). After serving on the Executive Committee of the International Association of Magazine Publishers, he became an honorary member of the Executive Committee.

Honors

Walther Zech was honored with the Grand Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , Ring of Honor of the City of Mainz , Johann Heinrich Merck Honor of the City of Darmstadt and was appointed officer of the Ordre national du Mérite .
