Waltheria is a genus of plants from the Mallow family (Malvaceae). The main distribution area of the approximately 50 species is in tropical America.
description
Waltheria species are perennial herbaceous plants or subshrubs . They are weakly star-haired, fluffy and rarely lignified. The stipules are lanceolate, the leaf blade is simple and has a finely serrated leaf margin. The inflorescence is terminal or axillary, zymös and often the flowers are crowded together. The flowers are hermaphrodite and small. The chalice has five lobes. The five petals are spatulate and persistent. The five stamens are fused at the base and arranged opposite to the petals. The dust bags are two-tier, the counters are parallel. The ovary is sessile and unicameral. There are 2 ovules . The stylus are clubbed or frayed at the tip. The capsule is double-sided. There is one seed per capsule. The seeds have a lot of endosperm . The cotyledons are flat.
Occurrence
The genus is mainly found in the tropics of America. One species occurs in China.
Systematics
Waltheria was first described by Carl von Linné in his work Species Plantarum in 1753 . There are around 50 different types. Here is a selection:

- Waltheria detonsa A. Gray : It occurs in Arizona and Mexico.
- Waltheria glomerata C. Presl : It was described from Panama.

- Waltheria lanceolata R.Br. ex mast. : It was described from tropical Africa.
- Waltheria macrophylla Hassl. : It was described from Paraguay.
