Waltraud Neuwirth

Waltraud Neuwirth (born March 16, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian .

Life

After graduating from the commercial academy and working in the commercial field, Waltraud Neuwirth began studying classical archeology and art history at the University of Vienna . She then went on a study visit to the Center Médiéval in Poitiers . In 1968 she did her doctorate on The Initials in Romanesque book illumination in western France . From 1968 she worked at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and was head of the collections for glass and ceramics from 1979 until her retirement in 2002.

As a scientific curator, she designed and accompanied numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. Waltraud Neuwirth was President of the Society for Comparative Art Research . In addition, she was a member of numerous clubs and societies, u. a. the Association of the History of the City of Vienna, the Society of Ceramic Friends (Germany) and the Silver Society (London). For her scientific achievements, she was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art , 1st Class in 1992 and the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria in 2002.
