Wandiligong in Victoria , Australia is a small historic town 6 km south of Bright . It is located in an area of ​​a former gold field .

history

Wandiligong was a city that flourished during the gold rush around 1850. At that time the city had about 2000 inhabitants. Today the city with its historic buildings is a listed ensemble in Australia that consists of the Manchester Unity public hall , which was built in 1874, a general grocery store, churches and small farm buildings.

The town itself is surrounded by mountains and forests and the Morse Creek River flows through the town. Hiking trails lead from the village into the surrounding area or to Bright. The history of gold mining in Wandiligong can be explored at The Diggings on Centenary Avenue.

The Buckland Riot , a violent riot between European and Chinese gold prospectors, took place in the area in 1857.

In today's Wandiligong, around 450 people (as of 2016) live on orchards and farms. Some artists have settled in the village. In 1972 the people of Wandiligong took over and repaired Manchester Unity Hall and a public park.

In the vicinity of the place there is one of the largest mazes of planted hedges in Australia with a length of two kilometers. Held in May every year for a nut festival.
