Wang Gang

Wang Gang ( Chinese  王刚 ; born October 1942 in Fuyu , Jilin Province ) is a Chinese communist politician.

Studies and professional career in party administration

Wang graduated from 1962 to 1967 to study philosophy at the University of Jilin . After graduating in September 1967, he worked at the university for almost a year before starting his professional career in 1968 as an employee of the public relations department at the Ministry of Construction . In June 1971, he became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) .

In 1977 he was appointed Secretary of the Main Department in the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region . From there in 1981 he moved to the Office for Taiwan Affairs in the Central Committee (Central Committee ) as a secretary with the rank of department director . Subsequently, from 1985 to 1987 he was Deputy Director General of the Communication Department of the Central Committee's main department. From 1986 to 1987 he was also Deputy Director General of the Communication Department of the Main Department of the State Council . From 1987 to 1990 he was first deputy general director of these departments.

In 1990, Wang became First Deputy Director General of the Central Archives and Secretary of the Main Department for the Central Archives in the CCP Central Committee.

He was then director of the Central Archives from 1993 to 1999 and also director of the State Archives office from 1993 to 1994. From 1994 to 1999 he was also director general of the office of the State Archives and deputy director of the main department of the Central Committee. He was elected as a candidate for the Central Committee at the 15th CCP Congress in 1997.

Promotion to a member of the Politburo

In 1999 he was appointed director of the main department of the Central Committee as well as secretary of the working committee for organs in the Central Committee.

As such, he was elected a member of the CCP Central Committee , a candidate for the Politburo of the Central Committee and a member of the Central Committee Secretariat at the 16th Congress of the CCP in 2002 . He was elected a member of the Politburo at the 2007 CCP 17th Congress. He has also been Vice-Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese People since 2008 . In these functions Wang belonged to the extended circle of the party leadership. In November 2012 he resigned from all functions at the 18th party congress for reasons of age.
