The Wannsee Terraces are a former excursion restaurant in the Grunewald directly on the Wannsee and its lido . The unique architecture and interior are newly built in the English country house style as in the Hamptons and have been extensively renovated and rebuilt.

history

The Wannsee Terraces were built in 1937 as an excursion restaurant with a thatched roof , destroyed by fire in 1947 and rebuilt around 1953. After being rebuilt by the owner Erich Schrader in the 1950s, it was one of the most popular places to visit in West Berlin until the fall of the Berlin Wall . On December 25, 2001, the 400 m² building burned down to the ground after a defect in the kitchen and had to be demolished because the tenant could not rebuild and reopen the restaurant with its hall for 250 people in 2002. In 2006, the investor Harald Huth bought the building of the real estate fund of the State of Berlin for around 400,000. A building permit was issued after five years . After disputes with the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office about the size of the new building and the number of parking spaces, the new Wannsee terraces were created with an investment of € 3,000,000. After the topping-out ceremony on October 11, 2013, the Wannsee Terraces reopened on April 10, 2015. A German-French restaurant with 350 seats inside and 500 outside, consisting of a beer garden, restaurant, bar, café and pastry shop, moved into the building.

building

The building consists of two floors. For example, on the upper floor there are two large rooms for family celebrations, weddings or other celebrations. The building is in an English country house style with elements of the ancient Romans and Greeks . For example, the entrance to the building from the terrace is decorated with columns. A semicircular bay window that opens to the water is also supported by tall columns. In addition, several small fronts and extensions were built in front of the house, which give the house a playful, but also stately appearance.
