Warhead is a German Metal - band from Osnabrück .

history

Warhead was founded in October 1993 by Peter Breitenbach (drums, ex- grave digger ), Benjamin zur Heide (bass) and Björn Eilen (guitar and vocals). Musically, the trio was based on US metal and "Bay Area Thrash" of the 1980s, influenced by bands such as Metallica , Testament, Savatage , Metal Church and Slayer .

In 1995 Warhead recorded the first and only demo in the Crownhill Studio in Düsseldorf. It was distributed by the mail order company EMP and sold over 500 times.

In October 1996 the Lulis recording studio in Osnabrück recorded the debut album Good Part for Each , which was later mixed in the Crownhill Studio. After signing a record deal with High Gain Records from Leverkusen, the album was released in August 1997. The band then went on a short tour with Grave Digger.

After the termination of the contract with High Gain Records, Warhead recorded the second album Perfect / Infect in the Crownhill Studio in 1998 . After the recordings, the band played as the opening act for UDO on the no-limits tour in Germany and with trips to the Czech Republic and Austria. At the end of 1998 the band signed a new record deal with Modern Music Records / Noise Records in Berlin. In April 1999 the album Perfect / Infect was released worldwide.

On January 10, 2000, Warhead played a concert in the Bochum colliery with Grave Digger, which was broadcast live on the Internet by Rock Hard magazine. A month later, the third work, Beyond Recall , appeared on Modern Music Records . This concept album tells the story of a man sentenced to death awaiting execution on death row. According to statements by the band in numerous interviews, the album is inspired by Tim Robbins ' drama Dead man walking and by the paperback documentary Life and Dying on Death Row by Swiss journalist Margrit Sprecher.

At the request of the singer and guitarist Björn Eilen, the trio was expanded to include the guitarist Florian Albers from Münster. From then on, Eilen concentrated on his work as a singer.

In April 2000, the band completed their first headline tour. Shortly afterwards Björn Eilen left the band. In April 2001 Warhead published a live recording of a concert from the 98 UDO tour as a live in Munich (Official Bootleg) , which was distributed exclusively via its own website. In 2004 Florian Albers left the band again. In January 2005, after a long search, Warhead found a new singer in Michael Müller from Dortmund and in July 2005 a new guitarist in Stefan Rolf from Kassel. Benjamin zur Heide left the band for professional reasons and was replaced on bass by Stefan Timm.

On July 20, 2007, the fourth studio album was released with Captured . For the first time, Peter Breitenbach was primarily responsible for production. With a few exceptions, the song material also comes from Breitenbach's pen.

In December 2007 Warhead were back on stage for the first time in seven years. In addition to a few individual concerts, the band played in the opening act for Beatallica in northern Germany ; Singer Michael Müller could not take part for professional reasons. Matthias Köpke temporarily joined the band as a guest singer. In June 2008 Müller returned to the band.

On the occasion of the band's 15th anniversary, Hour of Death - Live 2000, a live recording of the Beyond Recall tour, was released on September 26, 2008 . On October 3rd, 2008, the “15th Anniversary Show” took place in the “Lagerhalle” culture and event center in Osnabrück. The concert was recorded by a camera team. At the end of 2008 the bassist Stefan Timm left the band and was replaced by Phileas Holweck in April 2009. On September 4th, 2009 Warhead released their first DVD under the title "15th Anniversary Double DVD". On the occasion of the release, the band embarked on a short headlining tour through northern Germany, as a result of which the band separated again from their bassist Phileas Holweck at the end of the year due to musical differences.

The band has been idle since the beginning of 2010.
