Wario Land 3 ( Japanese ワ リ オ ラ ン ド 3 不 思議 な オ ル ゴ ー ル , Wario Rando 3: Fushigi na Orugōru , German about "Wario Land 3: The Mysterious Music Box") is a video game from the Nintendo company . It is of the action-adventure genre , but also contains elements of a platformer and was released on March 21, 2000 for the Game Boy Color .

action

Wario crashes his plane over a forest. He remains unharmed and discovers a cave in the forest in which there is a music box. All of a sudden he is drawn into it. In the chest he meets a strangely large face; the latter tells him that until recently he had protected the world in this music box, until one day an evil figure stole his strength and then hid it in five music boxes. The face asks Wario to collect the five music boxes that are scattered around the world. In return, Wario was allowed to return to his world and he was allowed to keep all the treasures he had found until then. Wario, who does everything if he is rewarded with treasures like a prince, agrees and immediately starts looking.

After Wario has found the five music boxes, he returns to the temple in which the figure is located. There the five music boxes play a melody, whereupon the hidden figure is released. However, this is Rudy the Clown , who is the villain himself. He himself was captured by the inhabitants of the world; Before that, however, he still managed to turn them into monsters (which represent the opponents in this game). After Wario has defeated Rudy, the residents are also transformed back. They thank Wario and then send him back with all the treasures he has collected.

Gameplay

The player controls Wario through 25 different levels and collects keys and treasure chests (four per world). The gameplay is comparable to that of Wario Land II . The appearance of Wario is almost identical, the sound effects and the pieces of music during the transformations have also remained the same.

However, the goal is different. In Wario Land II, Wario simply had to complete certain missions in successive levels. Now the goal is to find a certain key and use it to open the chest of the same color. So every task has two goals: key and chest. The levels in this game are no longer linear, but all from the beginning on a large map, but first one level after the other has to be unlocked. Many treasures trigger something in other worlds or open new worlds. In some levels, the way to the key or the chest is only blocked by a block that only goes up when you complete a mini-game that is in a certain door. This is always a game of golf in which Wario has to hit an opponent into the hole in a certain number of strokes. Each round costs 10 coins at the beginning and 50 coins later as you progress through the game.

After each level it is alternately day or night. This is often crucial, because not all treasures can be fetched at any time of the day.

Wario himself is still invulnerable. In contrast to its predecessor, it does not even lose money when touching an opponent.

Since Wario lost his memory when he crashed, he is severely restricted at the beginning and can only do a few actions such as jumping and ramming. Things like pounding attacks, swimming and throwing opponents and objects must first be relearned.

In addition, eight so-called "Music Coins" are hidden in each level, which color one of 25 small golf course fields when collected in one go. When all coins have been collected in all worlds, another course is unlocked in a bonus game. This bonus game is only available once you have found eight wax crayons in the form of treasures.
