Wario World ( Japanese ワ リ オ ワ ー ル ド , Wario Wārudo ) is a video game that was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003 . It is Wario's first solo game in 3-D and an offshoot of the fictional Super Mario universe.

action

Wario couldn't be happier. The treasury of his castle is full of treasures that he has amassed over time. Among all these treasures, however, there is a sinister jewel that has uncanny powers. It transports Wario out of his castle and transforms it into a huge, locked treasure chest in which it is hidden. It also turns all of Wario's treasures into monsters. But the bulbous anti-hero does not give in so easily. Wario immediately sets out to regain his fortunes and his castle.

Gameplay

Starting point

Wario is on a platform that hovers in the air at the beginning of each take-off. This platform is divided into four parts, not counting the large treasure chest. Once Wario has completed one section of the platform, another will open.

Game mechanics

In every level you have to find treasures. These are hidden in chests, but they only appear when Wario activates the switch, which is also colored. Wario can hit opponents with his fists or even spin them around in a circle, knocking down all opponents who come too close to him. This move can also be used with pillars that are found in almost every level. Defeated opponents leave coins that Wario should collect quickly. He can also suck them in with his mouth. In every level - apart from the boss levels - there are golden parts to be found that represent a statue of Wario. These are not absolutely necessary for the rest of the game. The situation is different with rubies, which are located under floor hatches, which Wario can often only open if he carries out a stamping attack on them with an opponent in hand. These rubies are the key to a mini-boss who guards the exit of each level, for which you really need all the rubies of a level. If Wario falls from a platform within a level - not the outside world or a bonus level - he plunges into an underground cave, where he is hunted by invincible beings, the unicorns, from which he can only escape with an escape zone, the one that is hidden there are boxes. When Wario takes damage, he loses a heart of his energy bar that he can refill with garlic. As soon as all hearts are empty, a game over appears , but it only becomes final when Wario runs out of coins. If Wario finds all the treasures in a level, his energy display is expanded by half a heart, so that he can get four new hearts throughout the game.

helper

  • Imp: These little creatures are locked in boxes and have valuable advice for Wario when he sets them free. There are five of them in each level.
  • Garlic Skimp: This machine spits out garlic, which replenishes Wario's health. Wario only has to push him, but the machine demands money for it

bonus

If all the treasures of a level have been found, mini-games from Wario Ware , Inc. are available in the outside world , which can be transferred to the Game Boy Advance via a connection cable.

criticism

"[...] The bottom line is that Wario's GameCub debut is far too short, not very spectacular, but still worth playing!"
