warning sign
Warning signs are used to identify obstacles and danger points where there is a risk , e.g. B. There is a risk of impact, crushing, falling or tripping or the risk of loads falling.
Basics
According to DIN 4844-2 , warning signs with the identification letter W are a subgroup of safety signs . In contrast, when labeling hazardous material properties according to Directive 67/548 / EEC ( hazardous substance ) , one speaks of hazard symbols , and when transporting according to ADR ( hazardous goods ), it is referred to as hazard labeling . The pictograms are based on the warning signs. The warning signs on vehicles are called hazard labels .
ASR A1.3 and ISO 7010 define code letters for the various categories of safety signs:
- P = prohibition sign
- W = warning sign
- M = mandatory sign
- E = escape sign
- F = fire protection symbol
- S = additional character
- H = reference symbol
- C = combination sign
Each standardized safety label can be identified by the code letter and a three-digit number.

DIN 4844-2
The form, color and meaning of the symbols are specified in DIN 4844-2 as well as the German accident prevention regulation for safety and health protection labeling at the workplace . Warning signs are black warning symbols in a black triangle with a yellow background and a light edge (RAL 1003 signal yellow). They should have no or very little text so that the characters can be understood regardless of language skills.

ISO 21482
In Germany, the ISO 21482 standardized warning sign for use on the casing of radioactive sources has neither been adopted in a national standard nor included in the accident prevention regulations. It is also not included in the draft of the new version of DIN 4844-2. In Austria it is standardized in OENORM ISO 21482.
The warning sign was introduced as a consequence of the Samut Prakan nuclear accident .
