Wait for Arslan

Wart Arslan (actually Jetwart Arslan ), also Edoardo Arslan , (born October 3, 1899 in Padua , † July 10, 1968 in Milan ) was an Italian art historian .

life and work

His family came from Armenia , his father Yerwant Arslan (1865-1948) came to Italy as a teenager and became a well-known ear, nose and throat doctor there. Wart, too, was initially to study medicine at the University of Padua , but switched to art history, which he studied with Giuseppe Fiocco and graduated with a laureate in 1925 . He then continued his training at the Scuola di specializzazione in storia dell'arte in Rome with Adolfo Venturi . He joined the state cultural administration and in 1928 worked for the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna , and in 1933 director of the Museo Civico in Bolzano . In 1939 he became professor of art history at the University of Cagliari and in 1942 he moved to the University of Pavia , where he taught until his death.

His specialty was the art of Veneto and Lombardy , especially the architecture of the Middle Ages , but also the painting of the Renaissance and the 17th century.

His son is the numismatist Ermanno A. Arslan (* 1940).
