The former nature reserve Wartburg - Hohe Sonne is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia .

The only nature reserve in the urban area extends south of the city center to the west and east of the B 19 . The B 84 runs northwest of the area, and the Hörsel , a right tributary of the Werra, flows to the north and northeast .

The 586.1 hectare area with the NSG no. 29 was placed under nature protection in 1961. In 2015, the larger (788 ha) nature reserve forests with gorges between Wartburg and Hohe Sonne opened up.
