Wartislaw V. (* around November 1, 1326 ; † 1390 ) was a Duke of Pomerania from the Greifenhaus . At first he ruled together with his older brothers in the partial duchy of Pommern-Wolgast , but stood in their shadow and was resigned to the state of Neustettin in 1368 .

Life

Wartislaw V was the youngest, later-born son of Duke Wartislaw IV , who ruled in the Pomeranian Duchy of Pomerania-Wolgast , and his wife Elisabeth of Silesia. Wartislaw IV died on August 1, 1326; Wartislaw V was born around November 1, 1326.

After Wartislaw IV's death, his sons - in addition to Wartislaw V, his older brothers Bogislaw V and Barnim IV - were dukes of Pomerania-Wolgast, initially under guardianship. Wartislaw V. was the youngest to appear for the first time in a document from 1338, although he did not yet have a seal. In 1341 Bogislaw V, Barnim IV and Wartislaw V took over the rule independently and together. Bogislaw V appeared as active ruler, later Barnim IV as well, while Wartislaw V remained in the shadow of his older brothers.

When Barnim IV died in 1365, his sons Wartislaw VI. and Bogislaw VI. Share in the government, whereby Wartislaw V. seems to have supported them against Bogislaw V. There were acts of war, whereupon Emperor Karl IV commissioned mediators, including the Council of Lübeck . On May 25, 1368 the brothers Bogislaw V and Wartislaw V and their nephews Wartislaw VI came to an agreement. and Bogislaw VI. on a provisional division of the government of Pomerania-Wolgast, whereby Wartislaw V. was resigned to the state of Neustettin . The final division was made on June 8, 1372.

Wartislaw V died in 1390. He was probably buried in the Pudagla monastery .

According to the historian Martin Wehrmann (1861-1937), Wartislaw V. was unmarried and the contrary statements made by some genealogists are incorrect.
