Wartislaw VII († 1395 ) was a Duke of Pomerania from the Greifenhaus . From 1377 until his death he ruled in the partial duchy of Pomerania-Stolp .

Life and accomplishments

Wartislaw VII was a son of Duke Bogislaw V of Pomerania-Stolp and his first wife Elisabeth, the daughter of King Casimir the Great of Poland.

After Bogislaw V's death in 1374, Wartislaw's older brother Casimir IV took over the rule in the Duchy of Pomerania-Stolp, as guardian of Wartislaw and his younger brothers Bogislaw VIII and Barnim V. Duke Casimir was at the court of Casmir the Great was brought up, had inherited the Dobriner Land in Poland after his death and was involved in fighting in Poland. After Casimir IV fell to the whites in the fight against Duke Wladislaw at the beginning of 1377 , Wartislaw VII took over rule in the Duchy of Pomerania-Stolp, initially at the same time for his two younger brothers.

The Polish King Louis the Great kept the Dobrin land after Duke Kasimir's death and did not give it up to the Dukes Wartislaw VII, Bogislaw VIII and Barnim V. After that, Wartislaw VII allied himself temporarily with the Teutonic Order against the Polish king, but was mostly on the Polish side. In 1386, Wartislaw and his brother Bogislaw VIII made an alliance with the Teutonic Order; In 1390, however, Wartislaw made the Polish king the feudal oath.

In 1392 Wartislaw traveled to the Holy Land .

Duke Wartislaw VII was murdered in 1395. Later historical research tried to identify Gerhard von Dewitz as the main author of the murder. The government in Pomerania-Stolp was continued by his brothers Bogislaw VIII and Barnim V.

Marriage and offspring

Duke Wartislaw VII married Maria in 1380, daughter of Duke Heinrich III. of Mecklenburg. From this marriage emerged:
