Wasa is a brand name of Barilla and goes back to the former Wasabröd AB , which has been called Barilla Sverige AB since it was taken over by Barilla . Many Barilla products (including Italian ones) are sold under the Wasa brand.

history

The company was founded in 1919 in the Swedish city of Skellefteå by Karl Edvard Lundström under the name AB Skellefteå Spisbrödsfabrik. In 1931 the company moved to Filipstad . From 1957 the company traded under the name AB Wasa Spisbrödsfabrik, from 1964 it was called Wasabröd AB ( AB stands for Aktiebolag , the Swedish name for stock corporation ). The company was named after the Swedish King Gustav I. Wasa (also King of Rye).

A plant was opened in Denmark in 1965, and another in Germany in 1967.

In 1999 the company was bought by the Italian Barilla group and renamed Barilla Sverige AB (brand name still: Wasa). Since then, many Barilla products have been sold under the name Wasa in Germany, for example crackers from Italy with olive oil.

Companies

Wasa claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of crispbread . The main office is in Stockholm , the production facilities are in Filipstad, Sweden , and in Celle , Germany. In Germany, the products are sold through Barilla Deutschland GmbH in Cologne.
