Wasiu Taiwo (born October 1, 1976 in Lagos ) is a former Nigerian soccer player who played in the Netherlands from 1997 to 2007 and then moved to Austria . He usually played as a striker but could also act as a midfielder .

Career

As a youth, Taiwo played in his home country Nigeria for Shooting Stars FC , where he was also active as a professional from 1995 to 1996. He won the Nigerian championship in his first season. In the same year he played his first game for the Nigerian national team at the US Cup . In 1996, after finishing second in the CAF Champions League with the Shooting Stars , he moved to De Graafschap Doetinchem in the Dutch honor division at the age of 19 , where he spent one season and played 19 games.

In 1997 he moved to MVV Maastricht , where he played for the next six years, the first three of them in the honor division. He played 188 league games for Maastricht and scored 54 goals. In 2003 he moved to AGOVV Apeldoorn on a free transfer .

2005, after two seasons in the Eerste Divisie at Apeldoorn, in which he was a regular player, Taiwo was awarded to league competitor Fortuna Sittard . A year later he finally moved to Fortuna. In the summer of 2007 he moved to the Austrian regional league team FC Harreither WY. In summer 2008 he went back to his mother club Shooting Stars together with the former Oberhausen-based Edith Agoye . He ended his career in 2009.
