history
As early as 1918, the Swedish Reichstag decided to build a run-of-river power plant near Porjus in Stora Luleälven . The construction work was stopped in 1921 due to the poor economic situation. Construction work did not resume until 1945 and the first turbine went into operation in 1951.
After a reconstruction in the 1980s, the five Francis turbines generate an output of up to 977 MW at a head of 107 m . The average annual work performed by the power plant is 2131 GWh. The operator of the power plant is the Vattenfall company .
