List of perpetrators in Norrbotten County

Porjus ( Sami Bårjås ) is a village ( Tatort ) in the Swedish municipality of Jokkmokk , which belongs to the province of Norrbotten County . In 2015, the Statistiska centralbyrån identified the south-western district below the dam or beyond the former train station Porjusfallen as an independent Småort .

A special feature of Porjus is that, despite its small size, the place has its own telephone code (0973).

history

Porjus was created in connection with the construction of the hydropower plant located here in the years 1910 to 1915. The actual location was only supposed to exist for the time the power plant was being built; but it continued to exist and at times had almost 3,000 inhabitants. The original purpose of the hydropower plant was to electrify the ore railway from Luleå to Narvik . Porjus is, however, a train station on the Inland Railway . As the Swedish government hoped for greater industrialization in the northern parts of the country, the power plant was designed larger than necessary.

The old power plant is now a museum and houses u. a. a training unit and a research unit. Visiting the museum is possible in the summer months without prior appointment and there are also guided tours. Registration is required in the other months. One of the buildings in the old power station was declared a monument in 1986 , making it one of the first Swedish architectural monuments to document the industrialization of the early 20th century.

A new power plant was built between 1971 and 1982. Today this is the third largest hydropower plant of the Vattenfall company with an annual electrical energy production of 1233  GWh .
