The Stora Luleälven is the larger and more northerly of the two source rivers of the Luleälven in northern Sweden .
It has its origin in the dammed lake Akkajaure . From there it flows in a south-easterly direction through the lakes Kårtejaure and Langas , then the reservoir Stora Lulevatten . At its eastern end it passes the village of Porjus and continues its course in a south-easterly direction to Vuollerim , where it meets the Lilla Luleälven and forms the Luleälven . There are a number of hydroelectric power stations along the river.
The most important source river is the Vuojatätno , which drains the lakes Virihaure and Vastenjaure in the Padjelanta National Park and the western part of the Sarek Mountains and flows into the Akkajaure from the south.
