The hydroelectric power plant La Grande-3 ( French: Centrale La Grande-3 or LG-3) is a storage power plant in the Canadian province of Québec . It is located in the Jamésie region on the La Grande Rivière river , 238 kilometers from its confluence with James Bay .

The power plant is part of the Baie James hydropower project , has twelve Francis turbines and is fed by the La Grande 3 reservoir . The installed capacity of the generators is 2,417  MW , the drop height 79 meters. The power station is operated by Société d'énergie de la Baie James (SEBJ), a subsidiary of the state-owned energy utility Hydro-Québec .

Construction work on the La Grande-3 power plant began in 1976. Originally, the SEBJ had planned to operate ten turbines, but then made a project change in 1978 and added two more turbines. Commissioning took place in stages between 1981 and 1983, with the installed capacity initially being 2304 MW and increased by around five percent in the following years. During the most intensive construction phase in 1980, 3,100 workers lived in the neighboring temporary settlement.

A 28 km long access road, which is not accessible to private vehicles, leads south to the Route Transtaïga .
