The hydropower plant Laforge-1 ( French Centrale Laforge-1 ) is a storage power plant in the Canadian province of Québec . It is located in the Jamésie region on the Rivière Laforge , a tributary of La Grande Rivière .
The power plant is part of the Baie James hydropower project . It is fed by the Laforge-1 reserve and has six Francis turbines . The installed power of the generators is 878 MW , the drop height 57.3 meters. The power station is operated by Société d'énergie de la Baie James , a subsidiary of the state-owned energy utility Hydro-Québec .
Construction work on the Laforge-1 power plant began in 1989 and commissioning took place in 1994. A 42 km long access road, which is not accessible to private vehicles, leads south to the Route Transtaïga road .
