The Oelsitz watermill is located in the Oelsitz district of Riesa , in the Meißen district on the Jahna River , a tributary of the Elbe.

history

The watermill Oelsitz is located on the Jahna together with around 30 mills. From the baptismal registers of the Weida parish near Riesa it is known that the first Oelsitzer Müller in 1589 was Balthasar Bennewitz. Documents from 1721 prove that the mill belonged to the Jahnishausen manor . The overshot waterwheel was supplemented by a steam engine around 1900 and always operated in conjunction with it. As early as 1898, the idea of replacing the water wheel with a more powerful water turbine was harbored. Large parts of the mill were damaged by the fire in 1910 and, as a result of the reconstruction, two Francis turbines with 30 and 15 hp were installed. In the course of electrification, the Oelsitz mill was able to access its first 75 hp electric motor from 1917 , which, coupled with water and steam, powered the mill technology via the main transmission. In order to do justice to the modernization of the early 20th century, Mühlenwerke Oelsitz had to transform itself into a stock company. As a result of the insolvency of the mill works, Erich Thieme bought the building in 1935. He began with the dismantling of unneeded building fabric, such as the boiler house. Furthermore, he sold the entire mill inventory. In 1936, Johann Müller took over the building complex and furnished it from scratch. In 1945 he was deported to the Soviet Union and never returned. From August 1946 Caspar Schönauer managed the mill, which was integrated into the LPG "Rosa Luxemburg" in the 1970s , where hardly any maintenance work has been carried out since then. The mill trench silted up and the plansifter , which was not needed for grinding, was sold. In 1992 the operation was stopped and since then the mill has deteriorated more and more.

restoration

Since 2009 some members of the Heimatverein have started to restore the mill. In 2012, the 30 hp Bruncken electric motor from the 1930s was put back into operation and the elevator restored. Due to the large amount of space available, historical and modern scales, traditional agricultural machines and old kitchen appliances were exhibited in some rooms.
