The moated castle Taufkirchen is a moated castle in Taufkirchen an der Vils .

history

The castle was first mentioned in 1263 with its owner Grimold von Taufkirchen . Later the Lords of Fraunberg ruled here . From 1544 to 1672 the Fuggers were the owners, followed by the barons of Puech.

In 1917 citizens of Taufkirchen founded a cooperative and bought the castle and the brewery. In 1919 the Upper Bavarian Poor Association acquired the castle and estate of Taufkirchen. Five years later it became the Upper Bavarian State Welfare Institution and in 1970 the district hospital .

Cultural events have been taking place since the mid-1990s. In 2005 Nico Forster bought the castle, who died in 2010. The castle was renovated by 2010 and parts of it were available to the community. In 2016 the community of Taufkirchen acquired the castle from Forster's community of heirs.

The castle is still used today for cultural events.
