Location and castle history

The place, whose name is derived from the personal name Chadalhoh , is first mentioned in the High Middle Ages . In the 15./16. In the 18th century, the place where a simple noble residence can be assumed belongs to the noble Starringer family of Hofstarring. The early Renaissance predecessor of the current castle must have been built around 1540. Then the place and seat went to the barons Goder and then by inheritance to the barons Eckher zu Kapfing. They had the noble seat rebuilt as a baroque palace around 1720. Since the client was a nephew of the Freising Prince-Bishop Johann Franz von Eckher , the building also served as the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops when they were in the area. In 1793 the castle went to the Counts of Holnstein from Erding . After that there was a brisk change of ownership and so the castle kept falling. In the middle of the 20th century it served as a retirement home for the Helferring German Women . In 1987 the roofs of the chapel and castle were re-covered, and in 1990 all doors were renovated and the fittings reprocessed. In 1994 the main portal was renovated and the facade was completed in 1995. It has been on sale again for some time.

Castle description

The approximately 20 × 23 m, almost square building with three storeys has a double mansard roof . In the north-east there is a high circular chapel (approx 12m inner diameter) with a conical roof. Inside there is a small hall on the ground floor south-west corner and large corner living rooms on the upper floors. In a long and wide corridor (with access to the gallery of the chapel) there are the library cabinets from the time of construction of the castle, which are important for handicrafts. Furthermore, the interior shows a magnificent staircase, in the rooms ceilings with stucco decoration and late baroque doors with wood carvings. In the palace chapel to Our Lady , an altar in the late baroque / early rococo transition style and a large crucifixion group in the same style are worth seeing.
The baroque garden was restored in front of the southeast corner of the building and the rest of the property (with hedges) was designed accordingly. To the west of the castle is the facility's former farmyard.
