The water tower in Summter Straße 5a is a listed building in Hohen Neuendorf , Brandenburg . In addition to the village church Hohen Neuendorf , it is a dominant elevation of the place.
History and technical data
The tower was built from 1912 to 1914 according to plans by the architect Albert Gottheiner in reinforced concrete in the neo-baroque style. At the end of 2003 the dome threatened to collapse. Thereupon the tower was renovated and in parts like the dome reconstructed. The contract was carried out by the architecture and engineering firm Sellke und Partner. The work was completed in 2004.
The tower is 40.7 meters high, has a diameter of 13 meters at a height of two meters and tapers to a height of 27 meters to 8.5 meters. Its foundation is five meters deep.
The water was pumped into two nested ring containers. The total volume of the container was 250 m³. The containers are surrounded by an octagonal facade.
The water tower is out of order and not accessible to the public. Occasionally, however, it is used culturally, as the announcement of 100 years of the water tower by the Hohen Neuendorf volunteer fire brigade in June 2014 shows.
In the neighborhood
At the beginning of the 20th century, the rural community of Hohen Neuendorf had the Prussian regional company Eigen Scholle from Frankfurt (Oder) build the colony at the water tower as a war- disabled settlement. A senior citizen center built towards the end of the 20th century is called Am Wasserturm .
