The Watertoren San Nicolas is one of the first water towers on the island of Aruba and is now the Aruba Industrial Museum. It is located in the second largest city of San Nicolas on Bernardstraat.

history

The water shortage in the early 20th century led to the establishment of the Landwasser Supply (Landswatervoorzieningsdienst) (LWV) in 1928. At that time, the LWV was responsible for supplying drinking water to the population on Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao .

In 1933, the first seawater distillation apparatus was put into operation in Aruba and the central pipeline network was installed in the urban area of Oranjestad and San Nicolas. After a short time, the pressure in the water network was too low during the main periods of use. Therefore, in 1934 it was decided to build two water towers. The San Nicolas water tower was commissioned on August 14, 1939 and the Oranjestad water tower on November 4, 1939.

Restructuring

The listed water tower (no. 04-002) is owned by today's water supplier Water- en Energiebedrijf Aruba NV and was partially restored and rebuilt in 2013 and now houses the industrial museum. The restructuring and remodeling costs were called around two million Aruba florins .
