List of listed properties in Aruba

The list of listed objects on Aruba (Lijst van monumenten op Aruba) contains the monuments listed by the Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba .

There are four organizations that deal with the protection, maintenance and restoration of the monuments in Aruba. They are in detail:

  • Monuments Office (the actual state monument office on the island)
  • Monuments Council (decision-making body for the admission of an object, in the Parliament of Aruba)
  • Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba (SMFA) (foundation that is primarily responsible for the financing of monument objects)
    • Stichting Monumentenzorg (preservation of protected monuments)

History of the Aruba National Heritage List

In December 1994 the government decided to place the monuments in parliament. On January 1, 1996, the Aruba Monuments Office was founded, followed on June 17, 1996 by the foundation of the Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba (SMFA) (Stiftung Denkmälerfonds). The SMFA organizations together form the so-called Monument Preservation of Aruba (Monumentenzorg). The SMFA Foundation does not receive any subsidies from the government, but is financed through donations and income from renting the properties.
