Wassili Alexejewitsch Iskowskich ( Russian Василий Алексеевич Исковских , English transcription Vasilii Alekseevich Iskovskikh; born July 1, 1939 in Chkalov Oblast ; † January 4, 2009 ) was a Russian mathematician.

Iskowskich received his doctorate from Lomonossow University under Yuri Manin in 1968 and completed his habilitation in 1980 (Russian doctorate). He was a professor at the Steklov Institute and Lomonosov University.

He dealt with algebraic geometry, especially algebraic varieties in 3 and more dimensions (birational classification, rationality problem, Fano varieties), mathematical logic, number theory and algebra. With Manin, he found Fano varieties in 3 dimensions in 1971, which are uniratonal but not rational (smooth quartic 3 varieties), a counterexample to the Lüroth problem (after Jacob Lüroth ). In dimension 2, however, they are rational (Del Pezzo surfaces).

He was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Warsaw in 1983 (Algebraic 3-folds with special regard to the problem of rationality). Iskowskich was a corresponding member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
