Vasily Nikolayevich Platov
Wassili Nikolajewitsch Platow ( Latvian : Vasīlijs Platovs , Russian Василий Николаевич Платов , scientific transliteration Vasilij Nikolaevič Platov ; born March 24, 1881 in Riga ; † July 17, 1952 in Moscow ) was a Latvian chess composer of Russian origin.
life and work
Vasily Platov was a doctor of medicine. From 1903 he composed over 200 studies, most of them together with his brother Michail . He headed study sections in various chess magazines. The 'Platow brothers' were Troitski's successors and are considered pioneers in the field of endgame studies . In 1914 and 1928 they published collections of their works under the title Sbornik schachmatnych etjudow .

The following study by the Platov brothers was well known in the Soviet Union because it was praised by Lenin in a letter written in 1910 to his brother Dimitri.
