Wassily Gerassimez (born June 21, 1991 in Essen ) is a German cellist and composer .

Career

At the age of eleven, Gerassimez first became a young student with Gotthard Popp in Düsseldorf, and later with Michael Sanderling in Frankfurt. At the age of 17 he switched to Peter Bruns at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig , where he completed his bachelor's degree in 2016. Since then he has been studying jazz cello with Stephan Braun at the Hanover University of Music .

Since 2003 he has been playing a cello made by Georges Chanot, Paris around 1840, on loan from the instrument fund of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben .

Gerassimez made guest appearances as a soloist a. a. with the State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate , the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin . He is also a guest a. the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Heidelberg Spring , Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern , tidal concerts in East Friesland , Bergisch Symphony , Neubrandenburg Philharmonic and music festival "The Next Generation III". He regularly gives concerts with his brothers Nicolai (piano) and Alexej (percussion).

composition

Gerassimez has been composing his own pieces since childhood. Stylistically, his compositions range from bebop and blues to program music . The compositions sometimes turn the cello into a jazz guitar and sometimes a percussion instrument. The main source of inspiration for Gerassimez is the piano . Many pieces are based on previous improvisations on the instrument. An important part of his compositions is also experimenting with sounds and techniques.

  • 2002: 1st prize at the international violoncello competition in Liezen (Austria)
  • 2004: 1st prize at Jugend musiziert for violoncello solo at national level with maximum number of points and special price .
  • 2005: 1st prize at the International Dotzauer Competition for Violoncello in Dresden.
  • 2006: Aalto Prize at the Aalto Theater in Essen
  • 2010: 1st prize at Jugend musiziert for violoncello solo at national level with maximum number of points and special prizes.
  • 2012: 1st prize in the German music competition with brother Nicolai Gerassimez in the duo category
