Stephan Braun (musician)

Stephan Braun (born June 1, 1978 ) is a German jazz cellist.

Life

Stephan Braun began playing the piano at the age of 6 and soon afterwards with the cello. His musical path led him to the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , where he studied classical cello with Wolfgang Mehlhorn and jazz with Dieter Glawischnig , Lucas Lindholm and Fiete Felsch . In 2004 he continued his jazz studies at the UdK in Berlin with Peter Less and David Friedman and successfully completed his diploma in 2006.

Stephan Braun is the winner of national and international competitions, including Jugend musiziert , Jugend jazz , the composition competition “Luther in Europe”, the chamber music competition “Charles Hennen” and was a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Bank Cultural Foundation. In 2000 he founded the band deep strings together with the cellist and singer Anne-Christin Schwarz, which in September 2004 received first prize at the Jazz & Blues Award in Berlin . He gave concerts with musicians such as Chris Hinze , Monica Akihary , Manfred Weinberger, Don Thomson, Nils Landgren , Melody Gardot , Kristjan Randalu and Annamateur . He also worked on projects for the Hamburger Schauspielhaus , the NDR Big Band and the Berliner Ensemble .
