Wavemusic is the music and design label and the international brand of the German / US-American music company California Sunset Records , based in Hamburg and Los Angeles .
The label was founded in 1997 by Michael van Droffelaar (aka Michael van Droff) in Hollywood - from the idea of releasing CD compilations in order to raise public awareness of the US smooth jazz scene in Europe. In cooperation with jazz festivals such as Montreux or the German Rheingau Festival , California Sunset Records organized concerts and put on the first wave music radio programs , especially in Germany and Luxembourg . The company also published productions by newcomers from the fields of sophisticated pop , jazz , soul and electro lounge.
In 2007 and 2015, the company won the German printing industry's innovation award for packaging. Also in 2015 the Red Dot Award (Category: Communication Design) for Music Packaging.
Public chill
Wavemusic has been the organizer of the open-air event series Public Chill since 2011. Throughout Germany, events have already taken place in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Heiligenhafen, St. Peter Ording, Cologne and Frankfurt with free entry. The first public chill was held at Buhne 16 on Sylt.
