Wayne Christopher Patrick Henderson (born September 16, 1983 in Dublin ) is a former Irish football goalkeeper.

Player career

Henderson's career started at Cherry Orchard before moving to Aston Villa in 2001 . He never played for Aston Villa's first team, but was the number 1 junior squad that won the 2002 FA Youth Cup . He was loaned out five times while at Villa. He was loaned to Tamworth FC in March 2004, Wycombe Wanderers between April and May 2004 , Notts County between August 2004 and January 2005 and Brighton & Hove Albion between August 2005 and January 2006 . Since January 31, 2007 he played for Preston North End .

International career

Wayne played for Ireland 6 times in his career, including against Sweden (3: 0), Chile (0: 1), the Czech Republic (1: 1) and San Marino (2: 1). The first appeal was for the March 1, 2006 game against Sweden. At the 2003 Junior World Cup , he represented the Irish U-20 team.

Private

The Dublin-born family has a goalkeeping tradition. His father, Paddy Henderson, played for Irish top club Shamrock Rovers in the 1960s . His brothers Dave and Steven played successfully in the League of Ireland in the 1980s and 1990s . His nephew Stephen Henderson continues the goalkeeping tradition in the family.
