Hussey grew up in the Bristol area and was heavily influenced by the band T. Rex . In an interview he said that Marc Bolan inspired him to play guitar. In the late 70s Hussey moved to Liverpool and played guitar in a few local unknown bands before he was hired by Pauline Murray as the live guitarist of her group The Invisible Girls in 1980 , which he left after a few months.

Shortly before the turn of the year 1981 he was contacted by Pete Burns , who wanted to hire him as guitarist for his band Dead or Alive . Hussey accepted and moved to London . First appearances took place in the famous Batcave . After the release of the EP From Nowhere to Nowhere , Hussey also began composing the songs, so he wrote the single Misty Circles alone. After the first chart successes arose between Hussey and Burns, in which direction the music style of the band should go. Hussey did not agree with the plans to make the music more pop- heavy and left the band in early 1984.

A short time later he joined The Sisters of Mercy . Here, too, he not only played guitar, but also acted as a songwriter. Hussey had a significant impact on the band's music and wrote a good half of the songs on the debut album First and Last and Always . During the tour through North America there was a dispute between the band members and the frontman Andrew Eldritch , whereupon he temporarily disbanded the group in November 1985.

A few months later, Hussey and Craig Adams formed the band The Mission , which continues to this day. His first solo album Bare was released in 2009.
