Wayne McGinnis (born 1932 in Mississippi County , Arkansas ) is an American rockabilly singer. He is the owner of Elvis Presley's first guitar .

Life

Wayne McGinnis, unlike most rockabilly singers, comes from a relatively upper class. In 1955, the young McGinnis moved to Memphis , Tennessee , before he had graduated from high school. In Memphis he performed with Billy Joe Miller, the duo played a mixture of jazz and country . Shortly afterwards he became a member of Slim Wallace's Dixie Ramblers , where Billy Lee Riley and Jack Clement also played. At Wallace's small label, McGinnis recorded some tracks, but they were never released. Influenced by Elvis Presley - the two were neighbors - he introduced himself to Meteor Records . Together with his friend Miller and his girlfriend, he made a record in April 1956, which, however, received little public attention.

He then founded Santo Records, where he himself worked as an A&R manager. Anita Wood , Elvis' girlfriend at the time, did some recordings with McGinnis. He later retired completely from the music business and started an airline company. He had learned to fly while he was in high school. However, McGinnis continued to perform over the weekend.
