Jody Steven Morris (born December 22, 1978 in London ) is an English football player .

Club career

Jody Morris played in his youth at Chelsea , one of the biggest football clubs in London, and got his first professional contract there in 1995. At the age of 17 he made his debut in the 5-0 win against Middlesbrough FC on February 4, 1996. Chelsea developed into a top team in the late 1990s, partly because the coach at the time Ruud Gullit kept trying to win numerous notable new signings cared. As a young player, it was very difficult for Morris to stand up to the big competition in midfield, such as B. Dennis Wise , Roberto Di Matteo or Gustavo Poyet enforce. In autumn 2000 Claudio Ranieri joined the club as a coach and strengthened the team with other top players such as Frank Lampard . The status of Jody Morris therefore remained more of a reservist role under the Italian coach. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to the club for eight years and made 124 league appearances. Even if he mostly only acted as a reserve player and did not play in many finals, Morris won many titles with Chelsea. In 2000 he won the FA Cup with the Londoners , in 1998 the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Supercup and in 2000 the FA Community Shield .

For the 2003/04 season, Jody Morris moved to Leeds United , but they were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season . Even before relegation was established, the Leeds midfielder was suspended for alleged rape and signed by the then second division club Rotherham United . However, he stayed there for only four months and moved to Millwall FC in July 2004 . Morris made over 60 missions for the Lions and remained loyal to the club when he was relegated to the third division in 2006. He was out of action for a long time due to a cheekbone fracture and a torn cruciate ligament and was dismissed at the end of the 2006/07 season after only four appearances in the first team at Millwall. A subsequent short probationary period at the Premier League relegated Charlton Athletic brought no countable success, which is why Morris kept fit after the fourth division club Brentford .

At the end of February 2008, the Englishman signed a short-term contract with the Scottish club FC St. Johnstone . The coach there at the time was his former teammate at Millwall FC Derek McInnes . After the end of the season, his contract was renewed and Morris played for the Scots until 2012. He then followed again the coach McInnes, who had meanwhile migrated to Bristol City . After half a year with the Robins , his contract was terminated.

National team

Morris completed four games for the England U-20 national team, which took part in the 1997 World Youth Championship.

Antics

Jody Morris has made negative headlines off the field throughout his career to date. He is said to have belonged to a group of Chelsea players who insulted a group of US tourists at London Heathrow Airport shortly after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . He was also involved in a fight in a London nightclub with John Terry and was accused of raping a 20-year-old woman in 2003. On November 1, 2006, he was arrested while drunk driving against the direction of travel on a one-way street. Since he was caught drunk behind the wheel for the second time, he was banned from driving for four years, 80 hours of work and two years on probation.

In a 2001 conducted by the British newspaper The Guardian for the football player with the worst behavior, Morris finished eighth.
