Webb Iceland ( French Ile Webb , in Chile Isla Escribiente Rebolledo ) is a 2.5 km long island in the archipelago of Adelaide- and Biscoe Islands off the Loubet coast of Graham lands in the northern part of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Laubeuf Fjord east of Adelaide Island , it is 5 km south of the entrance to Stonehouse Bay .
It was discovered by participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named her after Captain (later Admiral ) Richard Webb (1870-1950), commander on board the British cruise ship Amethyst , who had received Charcot's expedition in 1910 in Montevideo . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the French name to English in 1953. The namesake of the Chilean name is a participant in the 1st Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1946–1947).
