Wayside chapel

The Wegkapelle in Bad Bocklet , a market in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen , was made by the sculptor Michael Arnold .

The chapel with the figure of Mary is one of the Bad Bockleter monuments and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-72-112-16 .

history

Michael Arnold created the quarry stone building and the sandstone figure of St. Mary inside it in 1877. The chapel is located on Bad Bockleter Stellberg and belongs to the house in which Michael Arnold lived in Bad Bocklet.

A plaque on the facade of the chapel shows the statue of Mary as Arnold's last work. This expulsion goes back to Hofrat Franz Michael Werner, citizen of Aschach (today part of Bad Bocklet). According to oral tradition in Arnold's family, the statue was completed by his pupil Balthasar Schmitt . In the Garitz district of Bad Kissingen , however, the statue of the Virgin Mary is regarded as Arnold's last work.
