The Protestant fortified church Walpernhain is in the municipality of Walpernhain in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Königshofen in the church district Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church stands in the middle of the village on Dorfstrasse.

History and architecture

This former fortified church dates from the first half of the 12th century and is therefore one of the oldest fortified churches in Thuringia.

The church tower is 38 meters high and consists of two broken stone floors. Above is a half-timbered floor with a St. Andrew's cross .

The choir is the oldest part of the church and has a simple cross vault . The choir opens onto the ship in a round arch .

Furnishing

A late Gothic font from 1675 adorns the room. In 1742 the galleries were built. The ship was enlarged in the 16th century. The south door with anchor-shaped fittings also dates from this period. The colored wooden beam ceiling and the galleries are from the 17th century. The pulpit is from the 18th century.

The organ was created and installed by Georg Molau from Großbrembach in 1742 .
