Location and course

The bike path

The Weißenbachtal extends from the southern end of the Attersee over a length of about 15 kilometers to Bad Ischl and lies at the foot of the Höllengebirge , the apex of the route reaches a height of 592  m . With the cycle path, the connection between the inner Salzkammergut and the Attersee region is also made accessible to cyclists for tourism.

The Weißenbachtal cycle path is part of the cycle path network in Upper Austria . The entire length of the cycle path from Unterach am Attersee to the Salzkammergut cycle path in Mitterweißbach is 20 kilometers. The part of the Weißenbachtal is 12.1 kilometers long and leads through the communities Steinbach am Attersee (6.7 km) and Bad Ischl (5.4 km). When determining the route, mainly existing forest and hiking trails were used on the west side of Steinbach in order to avoid a route directly on the Weißenbacher Straße, which is also known as the motorcycle route , on the east side the bike path mostly runs on the road.

particularities

Mermaid fall

A part of the cycle path runs along the nudist area in Weißenbachtal, which caused a stir in the media in the summer of 2011. As reported in the Upper Austrian News , there were more and more angry complaints from vacationers and neighbors about sex scenes in Weißenbachtal. The nudist areas in Weißenbachtal have been clearly signposted since June 2012 - nudists are indicated with red signs.

The so-called Nixenfall , a 50-meter high waterfall at the foot of the Eibenberg, is a sight along the cycle path . According to a legend, the mermaid of the Attersee lives behind the waterfall .

Construction of the cycle path
